HKU is one of the earliest universities in Hong Kong to offer academic exchange opportunities in Mainland China. With the support of the central government, a dedicated fund, “HKU-China 1,000 Exchange Programme” was set up in 2012 to facilitate collaborations with Mainland universities. China Vision was then launched in 2015, aiming to offer all undergraduates a Mainland China learning experience by 2022. Students with such chance to develop a global mindset plus knowledge of Mainland China would be globally competitive.

Shanghai Study Centre
Officially opened in 2008, the HKU Shanghai Study Centre (SSC) is located at the historically significant Post Office Building at the north end of the Sichuan Road Bridge. As part of the University’s ongoing initiative to extend its teaching and learning efforts beyond Hong Kong, SSC aligns with the University's vision to contribute to social advancement and talent development through its engagement in the Greater China and ambitions set out by a global perspective.
The HKU SSC also creates a platform for faculties to develop academic programmes in Mainland China and facilitate intellectual exchange. Meanwhile, SSC helps the HKU community (including students, teaching staff, alumni and partners) to foster closer ties with the nation by encouraging dialogue and network building.
